I owned the hellhound 7900xtx. I finally have ended up with an AsRock Steel Legend 9070xt.
Here’s the deal. The 7900xtx is a beast of a card no question. It has raw horsepower.
The 9070xt isn’t quite as powerful, however it does better with ray tracing and upscaling since it has fsr 4.
It’s hard to go wrong with either one but I would say to you that ray tracing is starting to be required in some of the newer games. Expect that to continue. The other thing is fsr4. Say what you want, but upscaling is starting to be more of a thing like it or not. The 9070xt wins here as well.
Think of it in these terms. The 7900xtx is like an old American muscle car with a big v8 engine that goes fast in a straight line. The 9070xt is more like a fast modern sports car. Not quite as fast as the older muscle car, but it has more features and bells and whistles.
There are rumors that the 7000 series cards will get fsr4. Perhaps but I don’t think that’s been confirmed. If they do release fsr4 on older cards they may release an fsr 3.5 or a cut down fsr4. But we don’t know.
Especially with the 7900xtx being 200 more, I’d get the 9070xt. It’s not that the 7900xtx is a bad card, but the 9070xt isn’t a slouch by any means. And you may find in the future that the ray tracing performance and upscaling may make more difference in performance. Plus the 9070xt is newer, so if you’re keeping the card long term, the 9070xt will ultimately be supported longer most likely.
