Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing repeated BSODs on my new HP Omen Transcend 16 (model n0000ul: i9 14900HX, RTX 4070 8GB, RAM 2x16GB DDR5 Samsung 5600 Mhz) when working with graphic software at the same time (photoshop, illustrator and others). When I heavily work the CPU power is around 10%, GPU 5-8%, RAM 40-50%. This problem was actually showing up when I uploaded the RAM with 2x32GB Crucial DDR5 5600 Mhz. I had this problem very frequently during the day. So, I reinstalled Windows from origin, deleted everything, BIOS was uploaded and recognizing the RAM etc. I did not know if this issue was due after upgrading the RAM because I did not work a lot with these softwares when 32GB were installed. So, I tried to put back the original 2x16GB. Same problem even with just Illustrator open! The GPU inactivates immediately and system crashes.

The system crashes always with the following error:

Bug Check String: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE
Bug Check Code: 0x00000116
Caused by driver: nvlddmkm.sys (always) and dxgkrnl.sys (not always appear as error)

The issue occurs both on battery and while plugged in with AC power, with both "balanced" and "performance" modes enabled in Omen Gaming Hub and when running GPU-intensive apps. Maximum performance mode when in AC power. I already tried to perform a clean install of NVIDIA Studio drivers after uninstalling NVIDIA GAME Ready drivers without success (the DDU mode does not work). Temperatures are within normal range (around 50-60 °C max for CPU and 40 C for GPU, I use an external KLIM cooling system with 4x4000rpm fans). I updated Windows, Intel drivers, and GeForce Experience. I Ran BlueScreenView to confirm crash causes. The AC power is kinda hot but I guess is normal…

I tried to run FurMark and the GPU was at 100% for like 5 minutes, then I stopped the test but everything was ok and nothing weird happened. Is it something related to CPU power maybe?
I really don’t know what to do more.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

did you install the mobile/notebook rtx4070 driver or the desktop one?
The notebook ones. After spending hours this afternoon, I might have fixed the problem…..

I basically made a big mistake yesterday. I allowed Windows Uptate to install the Intel Driver Support Software…which replaced general drivers, and my GPU was not longer recognized today. I then restored the system to the point before this mistake and the GPU was recognized again. I also decided to remove the Intel UHD drivers and reinstall the version adapted for my laptop model from HP website. I Downloaded DDU and removed all NVIDIA drivers in provisory mode. And reinstalled the NVIDIA studio drivers ONLY (no app, no SyncX, no USB-C etc)…I also blocked Windows Update definitely.
Then…on the NVIDIA Control panel, I set my NVIDIA graphic card as favourite for global activity and set the Energy Management « best performance » (before was « normal »). I change the vertical synchronisation in « active » (before was « inactive »)…

NOW…it looks like no crashes anymore even tho I am working with photoshop, illustrator, chrome opened at the same time with the second screen connected !!! When I move folders from a screen to another one the GPU does not show huge activity pics but acts normally !!! So, I think i fixed it.

Since I reinstalled the original RAM (2x16GB), it might now work with the 2x32GB. I will try to update the RAM tomorrow and if no crashes happen I will keep it.

UPDATE after uploading 2x32GB Crucial 5600 Mhz.

The system is stable after the upload. A second screen (DP-USB-C) is now tolerated.
Finally.
