I was expecting a sealed Ryzen box...This what came and it was opened. Has anyone here ever received a CPU like this from a seller on Amazon ( in this case it was Maestro Technology LLC) Doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it but still...Would you trust it? Should I send it back? The plastic box for the CPU is taped closed. Doesn't appear to have been used. The cooler is fine although I'm going to use a thermalright anyway. Still seems sketchy to me..But I don't buy a CPU but every 4-5 yrs. So what do I know? What do you all think?

my guess would be a returned item. why was it returned?? no one knows but the one who sold it.

my personal opinion would be to return it and make sure they send a new unopened box. i won't take the risk myself.

others might be ok with the risk that is was used/defective or anything else.

could be 100% fine and just open box but again i don't take that risk when it was supposed to be new.

what is the link for the item you bought? does it specify open box or other such disclaimers?

Check over the listing very closely to see if it was actually a new item, or returned. While you have it and are within return period it may be worthwhile to photo document the process of testing it. Could be fine. Might not be.

I picked up a 5xxx series AM4 CPU a while back that I was not particularly happy the used aspect wasn't more obvious. I say to mean, previously opened and possibly used. It worked fine, continues to work fine. As you mentioned, even the paste was on the stock cooler.

I have gotten to where I prefer to purchase items that are either sold by/shipped by Amazon or exceptionally high feedback when third party. Even having to return a defective item that is covered is still a time wasting hassle.

found that companies listing for the cpu.

same as above. i don't see anything about new/used or otherwise. some of the reviews for them say they got an opened box, obviously used part or something else other than new.

many others say they got new and are happy.

i'd return it to them for a new unopened box and make sure they understand this is what you are after. if they can't guarantee a new unopened box, then i'd get a refund. cpu buying should not be a lottery.

Amazon, in particular, plays pretty loose and fast on this aspect. It would be hard to say they were being disingenuous, but certainly aren't being obvious about the condition or situation the hardware is in. IMO it is best to have a bit more caution when the return period is stated as 30 days or when they say contact seller.

Even in this link there is mention of the manufacturer warranty but not obvious that this product meets that criteria and more of a placeholder copy and paste. It should be expected that the further we get away from release of a product generation that such things would become more common.

I shipped it back. Ordered another from B&H. I will question everything I order from Amazon sellers from now on..lol
From any sellers, even legitimate IT stores. Most usually have "Display" or " Open box" but have to say so and sell at reduced prices. If any seal is broken, it's considered an "Open Box" item and not new. Seals are usually printed with a warning and made so they can't be reapplied.
