Hi forum.

I am an owner of an MSI GE73 RGB 8VRE Laptop which has an i7-8750H CPU and a GTX 1060 GPU.
During gaming the CPU temp hits max 95C but approx it is between 85C and 90C.
I suppose that temperature is way too high, so only solution except replacing thermal paste is to undervolt CPU.

Googling now there are some ways on how to undervolt the i7-8750H but everyone used a different method, different parameters and different apps.

Can someone please explain me on how to lower the temperature of this CPU (a link to exact procedure would be great).

I just saw some tutorials via Throttlestop and everyone is using different options and parameters on that program and I dunno which tutorial I should follow.

This might be a worthwhile read;

If you're looking at a specific area to undervolt, you should lower the CPU vcore, CPU cache, iGPU and the discrete GPU's voltages. Gradually work your way in decrements of (minus)5 or (minus)10.

Here's some more info;

Oh okay, thanks. If I lower them too much, and get BSOD, will settings revert to its default values (like before I messed with any software)?
Is the above possible with Intel Extreme Tuning software, which GUI looks more user friendly?
I don't understand any of the options of Throttlestop, I would need to read the manual (what is all that in its GUI).

Try Throttlestop It's the easiest way. It has a built in bench tool called 'TS Bench'.

But looking at your temps, I don't think undervolting is the solution. I think you should repaste the CPU/GPU with something like Noctua NT-H2, which is good for heatsink/bare die like in laptop CPU's.

Most 8750H will undervolt about -100mv. But, whilst it can help temps, to me at least the issue is the thermal paste. It's prob degraded a lot now, as your system is 5 years old.

Okay.Is this enough, instead of using Throttlerstop (too complicated)?

Yes, you can use XTU, but I know that TS doesn't link the CPU voltage to other components, whereas XTU does.

But, Ill get back to my first point. Your CPU is running very hot. XTU/TS won't change that much just by lowering voltage. I think you need to repaste your CPU/GPU. This is likely to solve the issue without undervolting.

Okay. Will see to try to find technician for.
What would be minimal negative offset for voltage correction and then go upwards in steps?

Seems I am not the only one with this issue

Just played Doom, CPU package temp was hiting 97°C GPU is okay at around 70°C.
I even have laptop cooling pad with 6 fans underneath laptop, but seems like it's doing [removed] nothing.

So I guess you are correct, laptop needs fresh thermal paste and then will see how it goes.

100c. is not too hot for an intel processor.
See that your cooling fans are running and that the airways are clear.
I am not much in favor of fiddling with voltages unless you are experienced and know what you are doing.
There are many cpu temperatures in a processor be sure you are looking at the correct one/s.

If you want to reduce temperatures, risk free, set windows power profile to balanced mode and the maximum cpu % to 99%

I saw this video, I don't get much temp difference compared to his laptop though his is Acer Helios.
As do I see in some games temp is around 70 C, and in some spikes up to 92 C, depending on the game but sits mostly between 80 and 90 C just like in my case.
Which again made me wonder do I need to repaste?
Notice how high his temps are in Black Mesa, Metro Exodus, RDR 2...

Cooling fans are very loud during gameplay.
I have cooling pad underneath laptop which covers all the airways on the backside of the laptop. The cooling fan {pad?] has 6 good quality fans, but compared without it, I don't see much difference in CPU temp (just few degrees 2-3).
I might try that, I saw it googling too,I don't seed highest clock of CPU, I guess, I am playing older games.
I guess warning sign to repaste is when laptop swtiches off during gameplay, correct?

Besides as I was googling many users were complaing on "high" temps of this exact model of CPU during gaming

Did that.So at the start of the game temp hit 95 C, until fans kicked in and with fans spinning loud temperature is in range 78 C to 90 C, hope that is normal.
But fans are very loud which I don't mind since I am using headphones while gaming.
I would say average temp is 85 C while gameplay.

Laptop was working in balanced power profile, I just did lower max power to 99 %.
I am okay now with temp.
But this does not mean I would not undervolt.
I wish I could have courage to replace thermal paste instead to paying to IT technician.
It it just anxiety and paranoia that stops me, even that this laptop is not too complicated for dissasembly and repaste.

Yes, that would have been my next suggestion. Bring to a local repair store and get them to repaste. It might. You will see a difference
They will clean the fans put too, that are prob very dusty if you haven't cleaned it before.

I don't understand, but why if this is normal operating temperature of 8750H under gaming?
I built myself 3 PCs, I will see if courage get me, I might do it as well.
