Question Best CPU To Upgrade From Ryzen 9 7900X (Used Market)

I've currently got the pc build as listed below and looking to upgrade the CPU, Ram and GPU for better productivity results and gaming (when ever I have the time).. I saw on the Facebook market place in NYC a Ryzen 9 9900x @ $250 or Ryzen 9 7950x @ $200 & $300... Which would be best choice, purchased 16GB x 2 DDR5 ram to include....

By better productivity, what sort of app's are you taxing your system with?

What is the make and model of your motherboard? If it's an ASRock board, you should consider swapping it out for something by Asus, Gigabyte or MSI.

The only one that would make a real difference is the 7950X if your programs can use the extra cores.

What motherboard ? 7950x/9950x need good and powerful VRM not found on micro ATX MBs. Those 9900x are only very marginally better than 7900x. So that leaves only 7950x as viable alternative but only if you really nee 4 more cores.

Does your workload need more cores or higher single core performance?

More cores=7950x, (somewhat) higher single core performance=9900x.

Neither will be light years better than your current cpu because it’s already quite good, but if a new cpu saves you like half an hours work each week I’d go for it. You’ll make back the costs in no time at all.

That’s the way I decide on upgrades for work machines anyways, a couple hundred dollars is really only a billable hour or two and new hardware is always fun.
