CPU: i7 13600k
CPU cooler: 280m AIO cooler
Motherboard: MSI PRO b660M-A CEC WiFi DDR4
Ram: 16GB, unsure of brand
SSD/HDD: SOLIDIGM SSD
GPU: 3070Ti
PSU: I believe it's just a Maingear 650W gold, but I'm not 100% positive as the PC is a prebuilt and is no longer available on the Maingear website.
Chassis: Maingear MG-1 case
OS: Win11 Home 24H2
Monitor: Not positive of the exact specs, just running a Samsung monitor and a Vizio TV as a secondary

I'm about to throw this PC out of the window after trying just about everything besides swapping hardware out trying to fix this random audio clicking and popping that came out of nowhere. It happens especially when I'm streaming audio/video like youtube, and can be recreated when moving the volume slider. There's been so many posts I've crawled about the same issue, but unfortunately none of the suggestions I've tried have fixed it.

What I've done:
Tried multiple audio channels
Turned off Audio Enhancements
Tried both front and back audio jacks with multiple headsets
Tried 3 different external sound cards
Disabled C-states
Disabled Core Parking
On the latest bios (7D37v1M1(Beta version))
Updated nvidia drivers to 533.63
Tried turning HAGS off (did not have an effect so I re-enabled it)
Updated to the latest realtek drivers, and tried the drivers that came with the PC
disabled all other audio drivers besides realtek/external sound card drivers
Ethernet is disabled (unable to disable WiFi as it's the only way I have access to the internet)
Have it on the highest power setting
Tested my outlet for any grounding issues - none present.
Windows update is fully up to date
Only have keyboard, mouse and headphones plugged into the PC

I've run latencymon and with c-states enabled I hit over 1000ms which throws errors, but with them disabled it's all green and no errors so I've kept them off but the audio issue still persists.

I have purchased a ground loop isolater but haven't attempted to test it out.

At this point I'm pretty sure it's something inside the PC itself but I'm awful at PC building so if I try to do anything inside the case knowing my luck I'd break it (the most I've done is open the side panel and dust it out, but I haven't even done that in a few months). Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome before I lose the little hair I have left!

I have spent 2 Years nearly 3 figuring this out. end of the day its windows and CANNOT be fixed as they refuse fault, Ruined my gaming experience since the end of 2022.

Spent years on windows gaming. Now its impossible due to terrible audio pops and clicks when pausing or resuming playback (which shows in games with audio changes marked with a Pop)

they wont admit it. I got 10s of PCs the same issue no matter driver/Spec/Peripherals/Settings

Yeah, not sure what could be done at this point. Just tested a pair of bluetooth headphones wondering if something was throwing big interference but nope, still hearing the crackling when moving volume slider on YT videos.

I am not, no. Just using whatever the PC came with which I believe is just generic realtek software. Both headsets were Audiotechnica, while the bluetooth headset I tested was Sony. The only software I have installed for peripherals is iCue 5, which is always off so I don't believe it has any affect - especially since it's only for a mouse and not headphones.

Would an earlier bios really have an effect? The bios I was on had no issues for ~6 months since I updated when MSI updated the bios to allow you to limit voltage easily, and since I'm running an i5 chip not having that ability would just RIP the chip. The popping just appeared randomly one day, no updates to anything which is why the issue is so hair-rippingly annoying

Try another BIOS or toss it out the window.
It's a possible motherboard related issue, as I noticed several hits for audio issues with this specific MSI model.
I'd say that if you're looking to tinker with voltages, don't go with a bottom dollar board.

I tried another BIOS but audio crackling & popping persists. The only tinkering I've done with voltages was to make sure the CPU wasn't receiving too much power as it was a big issue with intel chips killing themselves by drawing too much, I'm doing 0 overclocking or other modifications otherwise

I suggest reinstalling audio device drivers, when switching to other BIOS versions. It's not necessarily a single step fix.
Also try switching to one of those USB audio devices following a BIOS version switch.
And leave the BIOS voltage settings alone while diagnosing issues.

I did indeed attempt to use both latest realtek and the base realtek drivers. Also tested using the Soundblaster Play 3 I had, no dice so I flashed back to the newest BIOS.

I have not. I guess I could test it, but I'm pretty sure it's not BIOS version related at this point. The popping heard in this video

is what I'm experiencing, along with popping when closing out

& static/crackling when moving the 50hz test audio slider.
I'm using toslink optical from my Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite AX's I/O, into an Xduoo XD05 and out to a Rockford Fosgate punch 45/powered by an Astron 70A linear power supply, which is driving a set of Drop + MrSpeaker Ether CX planar magnetic headphones.
I'm using Windows 11 and I too get popping and static while moving the youtube volume level, albeit only if my main Windows audio level is up past 50% --Which is very loud.
Below 50% Windows audio level, there's no noticeable noise when adjusting the onscreen slider.
I'd say that the main culprit here is YOUTUBE.
Adjust your audio level using Windows, instead of on youtube.

I've noticed that there time for my pc to shut down has lessened immensely after updating to the latest bios - it used to take 10 seconds or so, but now it's shutting down in 2 to 4. Probably unrelated but something that has changed.

Ultimately, I don't believe there's a direct fix for this issue, as it seems to be related to adequate levels requiring increased device input levels.
My suggested work-around would be to acquire a dedicated headphone amplifier, so that increased source levels are not required.

For regular 6.35mm / 1/4" wired headphones:
Atom+ by JDSLabs
Note: For best results, use the above or similar along with an external USB dongle DAC.
